Our History

Under the watchful eye of the previous owner Carol Thomas, The Upper Cut began in 1983 in a small section of the Edgehill Shopping Center located behind our current location. Over the years as our team and spirit grew we began to burst at the seams of our old home. After several renovations to expand we found ourselves at a turning point. It was at this time that we were able to build an entirely new home for The Upper Cut where we’ve been since 2000.

The Upper Cut has been an Aveda Partner Salon since 1988, in the early years of Aveda. In 2017 we made the decision to fully embrace our Aveda heritage in joining the Aveda network as a Concept Location. In our over 30 years of serving the Dover community we have been named one of Salon Today’s Top 200 salons for growth in the entirety of the United States. These prestigious titles fall in line with the numerous local titles and awards we have won. 

In October 2023, Randi Boyd assumed ownership of the salon, determined to uphold the esteemed legacy of the Upper Cut. With a strong commitment to maintaining the salon’s reputation, Randi is dedicated to providing a welcoming atmosphere for all guests. Her focus extends beyond clientele, as she takes pride in fostering a positive and supportive work environment for the salon staff. Boyd’s vision for the future is rooted in preserving the salon’s tradition while embracing innovation and inclusivity, ensuring that the Upper Cut remains a hallmark of excellence in both customer experience and team dynamics.

Our amazing salon family is always growing with many of our team members being with us from the start. Special recognition needs to be given to our most dedicated team members who have served our community by our sides for over 20 years. Without these key members of our family The Upper Cut wouldn’t have the amazing longevity that it has today.
